I've been lucky to have some fabulous formal and informal mentors throughout my career; people who have generously shared their knowledge, expertise and experience with me, and supported and championed my professional development. They have all empowered me in some way, shape or form to stretch my thinking, make bolder career choices, seek new challenges, and extend my circles of influence. My career history would look very different without my mentor relationships.

Career mentoring at its best is an incredibly empowering experience, which enables mentees to grow in confidence, challenge themselves and fulfil their potential. I mentor people who are looking to progress in one of the following areas:

* individuals with leadership aspirations in the third sector.
* individuals who are new to line management in the third sector.
* individuals who want to develop their careers in the areas of campaigning, policy or culture change.

What is mentoring?
I define mentoring as a developmental and learning relationship between two people. As a mentor, I work to support your professional development, helping you to identify and set your own development objectives, and enabling you to identify the learning and opportunities you need to progress in your career.

What is it like working with me?
I've always been told that one of my key strengths is my ability to see the bigger picture and to bring clarity, vision and clear direction to those I work with. I’ve got a passion for learning, in fact its one of my core values and I’m always looking to improve and refine what I do and to learn from how other people do things. I learn as much from my mentees, as they do from me!

I take a practical and realistic approach to my mentoring relationships, making sure that we don't set unrealistic goals and that we use our time together wisely to maximise your learning and development opportunities.

How long does a typical mentoring relationship last?
I typically work with mentees for between nine months to a year. I find this gives us enough time to set professional development goals and work towards achieving these.
